So now it looks like there will be a little rain at 10:00 or so today. I'm still headed out there to drive. It doesn't look like it will be a washout. I was out there yesterday for a while and the track is in great shape! My # is 573-301-4951 if you're thinking about stopping. Mark

Tires & rims...

Post  jrich4x4 on Sat Jun 12, 2010 2:54 pm

Quick question...RIMS...should I run 1/10 scale beadlocks OR upgrade to 1/8 scale?? Do 1/8th scale tires & rims offer any advantage??? Terry @ the hobby shop ALMOST convinced me to buy 1/8th scale today !

I would personally avoid the beadlocks... they are pretty heavy and do not hold the bead well... we had all started with those and gave them up just as quick... the 1/8 scalers do add a bit of advantages... and a couple disadvantages... they are 17mm hex so you will have to get the proper adapters which will run you around $40 then the rims and tires which will run anywheres from $30 for all four to $60... so plan on spending about $100 for the change over...

I was thinking the same thing bout the beadlocks. Alot of the reviews were saying the bead pops off with high speed & hard cornering...(although they look cool)... i think im going to save up & go 1/8th scale... thanks for the advice !!

We actually JUST switched over Trishs slash 2wd after 3 bouts with the beadlocks and blowing off the PL Switchs that came stock on them... we went with AKA adapters and Dynamite Podiums... great setup...

I agree with Ross... 1/8th Scale is the only way to go...~!

It is a $40.00 investment, for the wheel adapters, but in my opinion well worth it!

Surprised

Well, my weather forecasting isn't as accurate as I had hoped. It started raining at 9:00 and by the time JRich4x4 and I got to the park it was raining hard. We got the trucks out and had a BLAST in the mud. At about 10:30 it started pouring and flooded the track. It was slick and the mud was flying! If it keeps up with all the weekend rain, I may bring a tarp out there to stand under. What a great day!!
We're going back out tomorrow PM if it's not a soaking rain to have some more fun. If you're interested and care about your cars interior, you may want to bring a large trash bag for your RC.
Also, if anyone is interested, a super cheap way to keep all the muck out of your RC is to stick a surgical cap/hair net over it and hold it there with rubber bands. It keeps out all the muck but lets the RC cool very well. We took our muck covered hairnets off the trucks and everything was pretty clean. It works great but you have to make sure that the material doesn't come in contact with the tires or axles. That's where the rubber bands come in. You can get 100 of these on Ebay for about 7 bucks. It certainly impressed us today!!
Here are a few photos. Should be a great day for mud tomorrow too!

Jrich4x4 seeing how deep the water was.

Muddy Hairnet - just dirty water inside

Here's another great one. Jrich4x4 LAUNCHED over the high bank at the RC park with a wide open throttle, hit the bumper log and kept on sailing into the jungle. All the while doing a nice corkscrew through the air! He landed on his roof and needed to stop into the body shop for a few tweaks to the roof. It was a great crash with plenty of style and creativity. If you race with him out there sometime, ask him to do it again! :)

Directions to Livingston track

Post  jrich4x4 on Sat Jun 26, 2010 2:25 am

Myself (Josh) & Livingston RC (Mark) will be there @ 10:am on Saturday...

I-90 towards Loudonville take northern blvd exit. Take a left @ the light(northern blvd). Go straight through 2 more lights.... past Stewarts (on right side). Go over the bridge & take first right. Go to the end of the dead end road (park)...& walk through the "no vehicles allowed gate" track will be on the left a couple hundred feet in....

I'll be there a little later now. I have to pick up another bearing at the shop for the Slash. I'll probably be there at 11:00.
